Deck Cushioning and Deck Technology:
The treadmill's deck lies underthe running belt and absorbs the force that each
step drives into it.
The type of running platform which your machine will have depends very much on
its physical loading capacity and its price. Domestic treadmills often
come fitted with just a single deck on the machines sub-frame. Larger treadmills
for home use may have a cushioned running deck on which the platform you run on
sits. This design of a cushioned deck provides impact absorption and gives you
protection and comfort during your workout. While all modern treadmills
provide some cushioning effect, the amount of shock-absorption varies widely.
Deck Sizes:
If you're planning to jog or sprint, the more the surface area you have to run
on the easier it will be to use your treadmill. Choose a machine that has a wide
running deck.
Console and Electronics:
Don't be tempted to buy a manual treadmill instead of a motorized treadmill as
manual treadmills have many drawbacks vs. motorized treadmills. They are often
difficult to get moving once moving you can't change the incline. Cheap
treadmills usually mean cheap construction.
